Westlake Royal Building Products: Royal Vinyl, Exterior Portfolio and Royal Trim & Mouldings Westlake Royal Building Products

Westlake Royal siding is vinyl siding with matching cellular PVC trim for builders and homeowners re-siding or finishing a house. Royal Vinyl siding never needs paint or stain, and it doesn’t warp, buckle or sag. Finish it with Royal cellular PVC trim and column wraps, which resist the moisture that rots wood columns.

Westlake Royal Building Products is a Westlake company (NYSE:WLK). It launched in 2022 as one brand that combined Royal Building Products, Boral North America and DaVinci Roofscapes, and its roots go back more than 50 years to Royal Plastics. Its trim line, Royal Trim & Mouldings, is the former Marley Mouldings of Marion, Virginia. The company is known for low-maintenance siding, trim, roofing and stone veneer.

Royal Vinyl: Estate and Woodland

If you want lap siding with a wood look, start with Royal Vinyl. The common worry is that vinyl will look like plastic next to real cedar and fade within a few years. Shine is what makes vinyl look like plastic, and Royal Vinyl has a low-gloss cedar woodgrain texture made to capture the look and feel of natural wood. The color is protected with Chromatix technology in both the traditional colors and the Colorscapes premium shades. Hold a sample against real cedar in afternoon sun and judge it there.

Estate has dynamic shadow lines, a wood-like texture and UV-resistant color. Pick it if you want the wall to look like deep lap boards from the street. Woodland gives you the classic wood look without the upkeep. It carries Chromatix color protection and a Double Lifetime Warranty that includes full coverage for a second owner.

The panel is engineered for high wind, but how it’s hung decides whether it stays flat. Vinyl grows and shrinks with temperature, so each panel has to hang on its nails and slide. Nailed tight, it buckles by its first summer. Nail in the center of the slot and leave each head just off the hem so you can slide the panel side to side by hand.

Exterior Portfolio: more profiles

Exterior Portfolio came to the brand from Crane. It has the wider range of profiles, colors, textures and accessories for matching a house’s architectural style. The siding is made to be strong and resist fading, and it doesn’t need the constant scraping and repainting wood does. Market Square gives the familiar look of traditional lap siding. The vertical profile has clean barn-style lines with contemporary detailing, and it works on gables, accent walls or a whole modern farmhouse. On a long, unbroken wall, use Premium Pointe in the extended 16-foot panel, because fewer seams means fewer laps catching the eye from the street.

Royal cellular PVC column wraps

Royal Trim & Mouldings goes with either siding line, and column wraps are where it matters most. The wraps are 100% cellular PVC and resist moisture, so they avoid the warping, rot and insect damage wood columns get. The square woodgrain wraps come pre-assembled, with a protective film that keeps them clean through the job. Leave the film on until the last trade is off the porch. Choose Traditional, Craftsman or Contractor caps and bases to suit the house. For a Craftsman porch, the tapered wraps come ready to assemble with Traditional or Craftsman caps. The wrap slips over a structural post, and that post carries the load, so measure the post and pick the wrap size that fits over it.

Water table and interior shiplap

Where stone wainscot meets siding, water sits on the ledge and wicks behind the wall. The Royal Conceal V-Stone Water Table is 100% cellular PVC, with a built-in drip edge and a reverse slope to keep water away. Its hard Celuka profile resists dents and wipes clean. Set it dead level on the stone before the first course goes up, because every siding course above it follows that line.

For inside work, the 1x6 Nickel Gap Shiplap is interior cellular PVC with tongue-and-groove edges, a good fit for mudroom and bathroom walls where wood would swell. Its shadow line doubles as the nailing flange. Fasten through that flange and the next board covers every nail.

Other Westlake Royal lines

The rest of the brand covers other exterior work. For siding there’s Celect cellular composite, TruExterior, Haven insulated, Crane Board SolidCore, Portsmouth shake and shingles, Foundry specialty and Cedar Renditions. For roofing there’s DaVinci composite, Unified Steel stone-coated steel, Newpoint concrete tile and US Tile clay. The stone veneer lines are Cultured Stone, Eldorado Stone, Versetta Stone and Dutch Quality Stone, and the decking line is Zuri. The window and glass door styles are designed for homes in the Southern region, so plan your window package separately from the siding and trim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see Westlake Royal siding colors before I pick one?

Yes. Free samples are available for both Royal Vinyl and Exterior Portfolio, you can order Royal Vinyl samples up to three at a time, and you’ll need a zip code to order because the product lineup changes by location. Use the HomePlay design tool to try siding and trim styles, textures and colors on a house first, narrow it down to three, and then compare the samples outdoors.

What does Double 5 mean on Westlake Royal vinyl siding?

A Double 5 panel shows two 5-inch courses, so each piece looks like two narrow lap boards stacked on each other. Westlake Royal makes it in both the Royal and Exterior Portfolio lines. The narrow reveal looks more like traditional clapboard than one wide course does, and it’s the better fit on a smaller house where a wide board looks out of scale.
