Trim-Tex beads are the vinyl corner bead and trim that drywall finishers use instead of metal on outside corners, archways, inside corners and edges where the board meets another surface. Vinyl doesn’t dent, rust or mold. A bead that gets stepped on in the truck still goes on the wall, and a corner that takes a hit stays straight.
Trim-Tex is a family-run manufacturer based in Lincolnwood, Illinois, and everything it makes is made in the USA. Joseph Koenig Sr. started the company in Chicago in 1969, making J bead. He’s credited with being the first to bring rigid vinyl into drywall accessories at a time when metal had that trade to itself. His son, Joe Koenig Jr., runs the company today as CEO.
Vinyl or metal on the corners
Metal bead kinks the first time a cart or a ladder catches it, and a kinked corner has to be cut out and redone. Trim-Tex vinyl stands up to hard impact without denting, doesn’t rust in a bathroom and doesn’t mold behind the finish. The usual worry with a plastic bead is cracking. Set right, it flexes with a knock instead of cracking, and fewer trips back to fix corners is the reason to switch. Plenty of finishers still use metal on plain square corners and save vinyl for bullnose and archways. Use vinyl on any corner in a hallway, a garage, a kid’s room or a bathroom.
Glue or mud
The fastest way to hang straight bullnose runs is spray adhesive and a roller. The glue gets on your hands, the bead and the wall, so keep a rag close and wipe off overspray as you go. On fussy cuts and short pieces, bed the bead in mud with white glue mixed in before you set it. That’s quicker than chasing overspray. The mistake seen most often is spraying adhesive on a bead that has raised legs meant for setting in mud. The glue only grabs the tips of those legs and holds weaker than it does on a standard vinyl bead, so set that bead in mud only.
L bead, inside corners and movement joints
Joe Koenig Jr. developed two of the trims finishers ask for most. Pullaway Pre Mask L Bead finishes the edge where the board stops at a window frame, a ceiling or another surface. Its mask strip protects that surface while you mud and paint, then pulls away. Magic Corner is the patented inside corner bead, used in place of taped inside angles. For movement, Hideaway Expansion Bead has a low-profile mud bump that’s harder to see and protects the joint when the building moves up and down or side to side. At the head of a wall, where the deck above moves, use Deflection Bead. Its co-extruded flexible gasket compresses and expands as the structure deflects.
Sanding blocks
Trim-Tex sanding blocks have a patented radius edge that keeps the block from gouging. A square-edged block run along a bead digs into the mud right beside the nose. The rounded edge rides over it.
Fire and sound products
Trim-Tex has spent more than eight years expanding into firestopping and life-safety products, and on September 17, 2026 it bought E-Z Tape, a firestopping and code-compliance line. Its fire, smoke and acoustic products carry a 25-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The warranty starts on the date the building’s permit or certificate of occupancy is issued and covers product installed to Trim-Tex instructions and code.
Exterior PVC profiles
Trim-Tex added exterior-grade PVC profiles when it bought Plastic Components, Inc. in February 2025. Z Flashing for Floor Line Applications goes over plywood or other sheathing at floor lines, roof transitions and other exterior joints where moisture is a concern. It reinforces the joint without rust, so no rust stain bleeds through the finish, and its pre-drilled nail holes make it quick to fasten. Floor Line Control Bead with Drip Edge works as both a control joint and moisture protection where two materials meet, such as wood framing over concrete. Its built-in drip edge guides water away from the wall and the joint. Use the control bead where the wall changes material, and Z Flashing where the sheathing joint needs flashing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you finish over Trim-Tex vinyl corner bead?
Once the bead is set, coat it the way you’d coat metal: keep one edge of the knife riding the nose and feather the mud out onto the board over two or three coats. Keep the nose itself clean of mud so it stays a hard, straight line. Sand lightly there, because the nose is the finished edge.
What is Trim-Tex Magic Corner used for on inside corners?
Magic Corner is an inside corner bead that goes in where you’d otherwise tape and mud the angle by hand. Hand-taped inside corners are usually where hairline cracks show up first. A bead gives the finisher a straight line to run the corner tool against.
How do you finish Trim-Tex L bead against a window frame or ceiling?
Hang the L bead with its flange on the face of the board, then mud and paint the wall right up to the bead with the mask strip still on. Pull the strip only after the last coat of paint is dry. That leaves a clean edge against the frame or ceiling without cutting in by hand.
How do you run vinyl corner bead around an archway?
Use a flexible archway bead instead of trying to bend a straight stick, and start at the bottom of one leg so any extra length runs out at the other end. Fasten it as you work around the curve so it follows the arch without flattening. Check both faces for a smooth line before the first coat.
How do you use spray adhesive on vinyl corner bead?
Spray the back of the bead and the drywall corner, give the glue a moment to get tacky, then press the bead on and staple it so it can’t creep while the adhesive sets. Let the adhesive set before the first coat of mud goes on, so the knife doesn’t push the bead out of line.
