Super Anchor Safety ARS and RS Series Roof Anchors, Flashing and Fall Protection Super Anchor

Super Anchor roof anchors are the tie-off points roofers and contractors set on a house so there’s something solid to clip into every trip up. On the ARS line, the anchor, its matching flashing and the stem cover are made to go together, and each bagged kit carries every part for the install, manual included. One system, sealed at the roof.

Super Anchor Safety is a family-owned fall protection maker in Monroe, Washington, founded in 1992. The owner ran a roofing company, American Roof Inc., before that, and started Super Anchor after being dissatisfied with the fall protection on the market. The first product was a patented permanent roof anchor, the ARS Super Anchor, still a top seller today. The founder still leads new product development, and the company designs, engineers, tests and manufactures its own gear.

ARS and RS Series roof anchors

The ARS is the permanent anchor the company was built on, and it has the widest set of parts around it: three flashing materials, stem covers, and a Tile & Slate model with its own manuals, engineering data sheets and CAD drawings. Once it’s on, the next re-roof, gutter job or chimney repair has a tie-off waiting. Set it through the sheathing into a rafter or truss near the ridge, fastened exactly as the manual shows. On a tile roof, use the separate tile installation supplement alongside the standard ARS manual.

The RS-10 and RS-20 are the RS Series anchors, and they take their own flashing: butyl, or Retro-Flash. The RS-10’s documents include specifications for stainless steel spiral shank nails, so fasten it with those nails and nothing else from the gun.

Flashing and stem covers

The worry with any permanent anchor is the hole it puts in the roof. Super Anchor’s TPE flashing works with its stem covers to make a waterproof installation: the flashing base goes in like a pipe boot, upslope shingles lapped over it, and the stem cover seals the gap between the anchor stem and the flashing base. Super Anchor guarantees its flashing components to work on its anchors and says they stay functional for the service life of the roofing materials. The TPE flashing is recommended for asphalt shingle and wood shake roofs.

The stem cover is the second half of that two-part system, so it always goes on over a flashing base. It keeps weather off the anchor stem and keeps UV from breaking down the warning label, which the next person on that roof needs to be able to read. Pick the color closest to the roof. Loose covers come bulk-packed with a 20-piece minimum, so for one or two roofs buy the retail pack, which adds the tether strap that holds the cover to the TPE base while the anchor is in use. For a single roof start to finish, the retail kit puts the TPE flashing base, stem cover and tether strap in one bag.

Harnesses, kits and rope grabs

Super Anchor makes the rest of the tie-off too: harnesses, fall protection kits, lifelines, lanyards, self-retracting lifelines and rope grabs, plus gear designed for welders and steel fabricators. The fall protection kits come in sealed buckets with lids, which keeps the harness and rope clean and dry in the truck between jobs. Match the rope grab to the lifeline it’s rated for, and retire any harness or lanyard that has arrested a fall.

CRA-W commercial anchors

On larger buildings, the CRA-W loop-top anchors mount to wood, metal, concrete or steel with screws, bolts, concrete embedment, expansion bolts or a field weld. They’re 3rd-party certified to current ANSI and OSHA fall protection standards, with engineering by DH Glabe & Assoc. Each one is a one-person anchor point, so a crew of three needs three anchors or a horizontal lifeline, which can run up to 240 feet with CRA-W anchors as its end and intermediate points.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Super Anchor Safety make safety harnesses?

Yes, the company makes harnesses as well as its anchors, lanyards and lifelines. Boxed harnesses are labeled with the part number, description, weight and UPC, so check the label against what the job calls for before you open the box. Before every climb, check the webbing, stitching and buckles, and snug the leg straps until a flat hand just slides under them.

Can Super Anchor build a custom anchor or lanyard for an unusual job?

Yes. The company’s view is that one-size-fits-all fall protection doesn’t always fit a unique project, so it builds custom ARS anchors, custom commercial roof anchors, custom wire-rope lanyards for 5° and 30° horizontal lifelines, and a custom energy absorber with a wire-rope lanyard. You order these through an online worksheet and the sales team, who also set lead times on custom commercial anchors, so have the roof pitch, deck material and crew size ready before you start the worksheet.

What safety standards do Super Anchor commercial roof anchors meet?

The commercial loop-top anchors are listed as compliant with ANSI Z359.18-17 Type A/T and OSHA 1926.502, and with ANSI/IWCA I-14.1 when they’re used for window washing. An Intertek lab report on these anchors is available on request, and the company publishes a warranty and statement of compliance. Keep both in the building file, because the owner or safety officer will ask for them.
