Schlage Door Locks: Knobs, Levers, Grade 1 Deadbolts, Keypad and Touch Locks Schlage

A Schlage lock is what most people ask for by name when they replace a front-door deadbolt, a knob or a whole house full of levers, and the reason is the build. The B60 deadbolt carries the top residential security rating, the knobs and levers come in matching styles for every door in the house, and every mechanical part is covered by a limited lifetime mechanical and finish warranty. Schlage builds for the standard bored door prep nearly every house door already has, so a new lock goes into the holes you’ve got, which matters on a Montana entry door that has swelled and shrunk through thirty winters and does not want new holes cut in it.

Walter Schlage, a German-born mechanical engineer, founded the company in San Francisco in 1920. It has been part of Allegion since the Ingersoll Rand spin-off in December 2013.

Knobs and levers for every door in the house

Schlage’s F Series knobs and levers come in four functions: keyed entry for exterior doors, passage for halls and closets, privacy for baths and bedrooms, and a dummy handle for a closet or pantry door that only needs something to pull. The trick to a house that looks finished is picking one style and buying it in every function, so the front door, the bedroom doors and the linen closet all match.

The styles run from the Georgian and Plymouth knobs and the plain Stratus and Bowery knobs to the Seville, Solstice, Flair and Accent levers and the Latitude lever with Collins trim, in finishes like matte black, satin nickel, aged bronze and bright brass. Under the F Series sits the J Series, sold under the Dexter by Schlage name: the Byron knob and Seville lever in the same four functions, with its own single-cylinder deadbolt, for a rental, a shop door or a bedroom wing where the budget has to stretch across a dozen doors. For a pocket door, Schlage makes passage pulls in antique brass and aged bronze so the pocket door matches the rest of the hall. The Latitude with Collins trim, for example, comes as passage, privacy, keyed entry and dummy, and it has a matching Collins trim deadbolt for the front door, so the whole house can wear one look in matte black. For a front door that wants more presence, the Plymouth handleset puts a full thumb-latch grip on the outside with a Georgian knob or Accent lever inside.

The B60 deadbolt

The B60 is the deadbolt to put on a front door. It carries the ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 rating, the top grade for a residential deadbolt, and a Grade AAA rating in security, durability and finish. It throws a full one-inch bolt with anti-drill plates and anti-pick pins, and it comes with an integrated strike reinforcer and 3-inch screws that bite through the jamb into the framing, which is what stands up to a kick-in. Those long screws earn their keep here for another reason: a jamb that has gone through twenty freeze-and-thaw cycles has loosened its grip on the short screws that came with the old strike, and the 3-inch screws reach past that into sound framing. It fits doors from 1-3/8 to 1-7/8 inches thick and adjusts to either standard backset. The B360 is Schlage’s heavy-duty residential deadbolt from the same B Series, with the same one-inch throw and door frame reinforcer, in the same finishes as the knobs and levers, and the B362 is its double-cylinder version for a door with glass within reach of the thumbturn. The interior deadlatch and the spring and dead latch replacements are the parts that bring an old Schlage set back to life when the latch is what wore out.

A single-cylinder deadbolt has a key outside and a thumbturn inside. A double-cylinder deadbolt takes a key on both sides, the choice for a door with glass within reach of the thumbturn. For the front door, the keyed entry combo pack puts a deadbolt and a matching knob or lever in one box on one key.

Schlage house locks use the common five-pin C keyway, so SC1 key blanks cut copies for the whole house, and new Schlage locks can be keyed to the key already on your ring.

Keypad and Touch locks

A keypad lock does away with the hidden key, and that is its real selling point. The Schlage Keypad Deadbolt comes in the Plymouth and Camelot trims that match the mechanical knobs, so a keypad on the front door does not look bolted on next to a Plymouth handleset. The Keypad Lever, in the Plymouth trim with an Elan lever, is the one for a side, garage or shop entry that has a single bore and no deadbolt above it. The Schlage Touch deadbolt and Touch lever go further: a touchscreen instead of buttons, and no key cylinder at all, which means there is nothing on the outside to pick or bump.

For a cabin up the North Fork or at Seeley Lake that sits empty from January to March, a keypad deadbolt means no key under the mat, a code for the neighbor who checks the pipes after a cold snap, and a new code the day a key would have gone missing. Change the battery in the fall before the cold sets in, because a battery that is tired in October is dead in January, and every keypad model still takes its key as a backup except the Touch, which has none to lose.

Schlage also makes Wi-Fi smart deadbolts that open from a phone, but for most doors the Keypad and Touch locks do the job without a network.

The warranty

Schlage’s mechanical knobs, levers and deadbolts carry a limited lifetime mechanical and finish warranty for the original owner in a residential home. The Keypad, Touch and Wi-Fi models carry that same lifetime mechanical and finish coverage plus a limited three-year electronics warranty, so the bolt, the chassis and the finish on a keypad lock are covered as long as the plain deadbolt beside it. The one finish Schlage leaves out is Oil Rubbed Bronze, which is made to change with daily use.

Why Schlage

Schlage has been named America’s most trusted lock brand for the seventh year running in the 2026 America’s Most Trusted Door Locks and Hardware Study by Lifestory Research, built on more than 7,200 consumer opinions. Schlage puts a Grade 1 bolt with 3-inch screws on the front door, one matching style on every door in the house, and a keypad or a touchscreen on the doors where a key is a nuisance, with lifetime coverage on the mechanical parts of all of it. That combination is why Schlage is the lock people name when they walk up to the counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Schlage locks good?

Yes. The Schlage B60 deadbolt carries the ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 rating and a Grade AAA security rating, with a one-inch bolt, anti-drill plates, anti-pick pins and a strike reinforcer with 3-inch screws. Schlage’s mechanical locks carry a limited lifetime mechanical and finish warranty.

How do I reprogram a Schlage keypad lock?

With the lock’s programming code, which comes on a sticker with every Schlage keypad and Touch lock. Enter the programming code at the keypad, then the add-code sequence from the lock’s card and the new user code, entered twice; the delete sequence works the same way with the code you want gone. Write the programming code down the day the lock goes on and keep it inside the house, because an old user code keeps working until you delete it, and a lost programming code means pulling the lock to reset it.

How do I change the battery on a Schlage keypad lock?

From the inside of the door: the battery sits behind the inside cover, so the door does not have to come apart and the codes stay put. Cold weather drains a battery faster, so on an exterior door in Montana put a fresh one in each fall rather than waiting for the low-battery warning in the middle of winter.

Can Schlage locks be keyed alike?

Yes. Schlage house locks use the five-pin C keyway, and new Schlage locks can be keyed to match the key you already carry. Keyed entry combo packs put a deadbolt and a knob or lever on one key out of the box.

Can the Schlage Touch deadbolt be picked?

No. The Touch deadbolt has no key cylinder, so there is nothing on the outside to pick or bump. You get in with a code on the touchscreen.
