Kampel SeamFil Laminate Repair and Caulks Kampel

Kampel SeamFil laminate filler repairs countertop nicks, seams and gouges for cabinet shops, laminate fabricators and do-it-yourselfers. It lets you tackle localized damage without replacing an entire laminate section.

Kampel Enterprises, Inc. was established in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, in 1948. The company built countertops and cabinets there. Now in its fourth generation, Kampel makes laminate repair products, color-matched caulks, silicone sealant and wood-repair epoxy.

Start with the damaged spot

For a small damaged spot in an otherwise sound countertop, a localized repair is the practical place to start. SeamFil is a one-part system made for nicks, seams and gouges. Look at the surrounding laminate and the core underneath before working on the surface; swelling or lifting edges need attention before the cosmetic repair.

Give the color match time

SeamFil has mixing recipes for Formica and Nevamar laminate colors. The proportions are approximate, and you may need to increase or decrease them to improve the match. Treat the recipe as a starting point.

The mistake is treating that recipe as finished before comparing it with the actual countertop. Some color combinations are flagged as poor or bad mixes, so allow time for adjustment. Compare a trial mix against the existing surface in the light where the repair will be seen, using small tint additions to move the color gradually.

For the adjoining caulk joint, ColorFlex II is a high-gloss acrylic caulk with 219 standard colors and custom matching to laminate, solid surface, wallpaper, paint and tile colors. Compare the filler and caulk against the same existing surface so each material gets its own color check.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Kampel SeamFil used for?

SeamFil repairs nicks, fills seams and repairs gouges in laminate. It’s a practical way to handle localized countertop damage without replacing an entire laminate section. Check the underlying material first, because a cosmetic repair won’t fix a swollen countertop core.

How do you use the SeamFil color guide?

Find your Formica or Nevamar laminate color in the SeamFil guide, then use the listed colors and approximate proportions as your starting mix. A value of 1 means essentially 100% of that color; Slight Touch and Speck indicate small tint additions. Check the match against your actual countertop before settling on the proportions.

What is Kampel ColorFlex used for?

ColorFlex is a custom-colored acrylic latex caulk containing silicone for corner and perimeter joints on decorative surfaces. If you’re matching an existing surface, check the caulk color against that surface in the room’s lighting. Color and sheen both affect how noticeable the finished joint looks.

Is SeamFil a two-part filler?

No. SeamFil is a one-part laminate repair system, so you aren’t combining separate components to make the repair material. Mixing colors to match your laminate is a separate task.
