Hamilton Drywall Compounds and Textures Hamilton

Hamilton drywall mud is for finishers patching drywall, finishing joints and applying texture. Fast Set Lite is the line for repairs that need several coats in a short stretch. Start with the job and the time you have to work the material.

Hamilton Drywall Products is based in Monroe, North Carolina. The company specializes in drywall finishing products. Its lineup also includes cornerbeads, trims and steel framing accessories.

Fast Set Lite for multiple coats

Fast Set Lite hardens chemically and is intended for quick applications requiring multiple coats. That’s useful when you’ve got a patch to build out. Choose a shorter set designation for a small, organized repair, and allow more working time for wider work or several scattered patches. Mix batches you can spread and shape before they stiffen.

Treat chemical set times as approximate. Material viscosity, air or water temperature, water hardness and humidity can affect the timing. Leave room in your schedule for the conditions you’re actually working in.

Chemical hardening and moisture leaving the patch are separate processes. Temperature, humidity and coat thickness affect drying, so a thick fill needs more allowance than a thin finish coat. Let the compound dry before you prime and paint.

General finishing and surface preparation

Hamilton All Purpose is intended for all finishing applications. Hamilton Light Weight also covers all finishing applications and is aimed at easier handling.

Burying the tape under a heavy coat stretches drying time. Keep the tape coat controlled and provide ventilation.

For a Level 5 finish, Hamilton Prep Coat can replace a skim coat over a properly finished Level 4 surface. Get the joints and fasteners right first, and flatten ridges and feather the edges before the surfacing step.

Choosing a texture material

Hamilton Mid Weight is intended for finishing and texture, so you can use one compound for both jobs. Get the patch flat before you texture it.

For a dedicated texture product, Hamilton Blue Line is intended for fine to medium patterns. Hamilton Green Line is intended for medium to heavy patterns. Choose around the pattern you’re trying to leave, then test it on scrap before you work on the wall. Let the sample dry so you can judge the relief and edges against the surrounding texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Hamilton drywall mud set so fast?

Hamilton Fast Set Lite hardens chemically, so you can build up multiple coats without waiting for each coat to dry completely. The shortest version has a 5-minute designation, but that isn’t a paint-ready deadline. Your patch still needs to dry before you prime and paint.
