Grip-Rite Nails, Screws and Building Products Grip-Rite

Grip-Rite nails and screws are for contractors fastening framing, drywall, trim and decking. Hand-drive and collated options let you match the fastener to how you’re doing the work. Start with the material you’re fastening and the conditions it’ll face.

Grip-Rite is a construction-products brand with more than 40 years in the fastener industry. Its range includes fasteners, building products, and tools and accessories. Its fastener selection covers wood-to-wood connections and finish work.

Nails and screws matched to the job

Grip-Rite box nails are designed for wood-to-wood applications, with bright, coated and hot-dipped galvanized steel options. For a connection carrying a load, follow the specified nail type, length and shank diameter.

Finish nails and brads give you options for trim work. Heavier trim generally calls for more holding power; small moldings make hole size more noticeable. Grip-Rite offers the fastener types listed in the table below. Match the fastener to both the trim connection and the gun.

The range also includes drywall screws, exterior-coated trim-head screws, gutter screws and cabinet screws. DeckForce includes specialized models for wood and composite decking, so choose the version for your board material.

Nail-gun compatibility and finish

Grip-Rite guarantees its collated nails will load, feed and actuate in tools designed for the specific fastener type. Match the nail’s collation, angle, length and shank diameter to your tool’s requirements.

Settle the material and exposure before choosing the finish. Treating every galvanized finish as interchangeable can leave you with rust stains and deteriorating fasteners. When the box says electrogalvanized, select another appropriate fastener for cedar, cement board, redwood, most treated wood or exposed applications.

House wrap and flashing

Grip-Rite ProWrap-SA is a self-adhering, peel-and-stick house wrap that provides moisture and air protection and promotes drainage for residential and commercial construction. ProWrap also includes BUTYL and FLEX flashing tapes. At openings, arrange the flashing laps so water drains toward the exterior.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Grip-Rite nails work in my nail gun?

Your gun has to accept the specific fastener type. Grip-Rite offers 21-degree plastic-strip nails, but that angle isn’t a fit for every nailer. Its loading and feeding guarantee applies to tools designed for the specific fastener you’re using.

Can you use Grip-Rite nails outside?

The finish matters. Grip-Rite offers hot-dipped galvanized box nails for wood-to-wood work, with a coating that protects against outdoor rust and corrosion. If you’re fastening in an exposed location, electrogalvanized nails aren’t suitable; they’re also unsuitable for most treated wood.

Does Grip-Rite make screws for composite decking?

Yes. Grip-Rite’s DeckForce composite screws use a T-20 star drive, and the line includes separate models for wood decking. You still need to follow your decking manufacturer’s fastening requirements, because the screw has to suit the board.

What is Grip-Rite ProWrap-SA used for?

It’s a self-adhering, peel-and-stick house wrap for moisture and air protection in residential and commercial construction. It also promotes drainage. You still need properly detailed flashing at openings, since house wrap alone doesn’t finish the connection around a window or door.
