Ecologic Interior Paint Ecologic

Ecologic interior paint is for institutional crews repainting interior walls in pearl or semigloss. It’s a waterborne, 100% acrylic latex paint that’s self-priming on previously painted surfaces, a useful fit for routine room repaints.

Rodda Paint Co. makes Ecologic and is headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The business began in 1932 as Peterson/Rodda Paint Co., founded by Art Rodda and Chet Peterson. Rodda identifies itself as an independent subsidiary of the Cloverdale Group. It manufactures and distributes paints, industrial coatings and professional painting supplies.

Choosing pearl or semigloss

Start with Ecologic pearl for broad wall areas when you want a restrained sheen. Choose semigloss when a more pronounced sheen is part of the room’s finish plan. Stronger reflection makes uneven patches and sanding marks easier to see. Smooth repairs matter more as the sheen goes up.

For walls where washability is the deciding concern, Ecologic flat gives you a washable interior wall finish with a gloss-free appearance.

Light running along a wall brings out texture and patch edges. A small sample viewed elsewhere can give you a different impression of the finish. Judge your pearl or semigloss sample on the actual wall under the lights the room uses.

Preparing previously painted walls

Ecologic’s self-priming claim applies to previously painted surfaces. The new coating needs a clean, sound surface to grip. Remove loose paint, clean off contamination and dull slick areas before painting.

Bare filler and the surrounding painted wall can absorb paint differently, leaving a repair visible as a change in sheen. Treat the patches separately. Sand repairs flush and prime bare patches with a primer suited to the repair material.

Keeping the repaint schedule clear

Ecologic pearl and semigloss each have white, deep and neutral bases listed in gallon and five-gallon sizes. Keep the finish and base together on the room schedule so the crew can distinguish each paint assignment.

A later touch-up depends on matching sheen as well as color. Save the can label and record the finish, base and tint formula for each room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Ecologic paint washable?

Ecologic flat is a washable interior wall finish. Its latex resin and ceramic microsphere formulation is designed to resist stains, abrasion and burnishing, the shiny marks that rubbing can leave on flat paint.

Does Ecologic paint need a primer?

Ecologic is self-priming on previously painted surfaces. That claim doesn’t cover bare or problem surfaces, so the condition of your wall still determines the primer work.

Is Ecologic paint zero VOC?

Ecologic is marketed as zero VOC, though its formulation description says near-zero VOCs. There’s no numerical VOC value or tinting information to support a more exact claim.

Can you use Ecologic paint outside?

Ecologic is an interior paint. Its self-priming claim applies to previously painted surfaces inside; it isn’t an exterior-use claim.
